Woof Wear | Medical Hoof Boot

Color: Sky Blue/Black

The unique close-fitting "shoe" is designed to keep scrapes, wraps and dressings clean. The sturdy shoe can be used both inside the stable and in the paddock, allowing the horse some freedom instead of having to stand in a stall to keep the hoof clean for a minor injury that requires a level of hygiene.

The shoe has a patterned sole that provides good traction on the ground and the inside is lined with Kevlar, which is highly durable and long-lasting. The special assymetric zipper is unformed to give the shoe a snug fit and allow for some flexibility - not to mention preventing the shoe from opening up so that bedding and other surfaces don't crawl into the shoe.

The Medical Hoof Boot is available in 10 different sizes based on shoe sizes. The hoof boot can be used on both barefoot and shod horses. It can help the horse with a number of problems - for example, if the horse has a hoof abscess, has been nailed or has a sole bruise.
  • Tight-fitting hoof shoes
  • Keeps scrapes, wraps and dressings clean
  • Reduces the use of vetwrap
  • Can be used both in the stable and in the paddock
  • Highly durable - can be used again and again
  • Patterned sole for a good grip
  • Durable Kevlar lining
  • Assymetric zipper that prevents the shoe from unzipping
  • Machine washable
  • Should NOT be used while riding
  • Should not be used instead of bells
The horse should always wear a bell in addition to the Medical Hoof Boot to protect the zipper.

How to get the best out of your Medical Hoof Boot:
Bells
Do NOT use the Medical Hoof Boot instead of bells to avoid the horse dropping shoes. The Medical Hoof Boot is not designed to protect when the horse steps on its shoe and therefore cannot protect against the horse stepping off its shoe. You should always use bells over the Medical Hoof Boot to best protect both the horse and your Medical Hoof Boot.

Measure, measure, measure...
The Medical Hoof Boot is designed to fit snugly so that it does not risk falling off. If you don't measure your horse's hoof correctly or buy a size that is too big, you risk ruining the boot because your horse could step on it.

How to measure:
  1. Be careful when measuring the width of the hoof. You should measure BEFORE you tie the hoof and can measure the hoof with or without shoes.
  2. Choose your size according to our guide (don't go up a size!)
  3. Don't add extra to your measurement if the hoof needs to be tied or wrapped - the shoe should fit!
Application of the Medical Hoof Boot:
  • ALWAYS use a bell in addition to the Medical Hoof Boot! A bell shields against blows from the other hooves and prevents the horse from stepping on the shoe.
  • Rubber bells are NOT enough! Rubber bells are simply too soft and don't go down far enough to provide adequate protection.
  • Use the right size Medical Hoof Boot! Injuries happen especially if the hoof boot is too big, so it's important that the hoof is measured carefully so that the customer gets the right size. If the shoe is too big, the horse will more easily step on the edge and break the shoe.
We recommend using Woof Wear Ultra Kevlar b ells with the Medical Hoof Boot. These bells are heavy-duty in quality and go deep around the hoof to protect the shoe.

Back in 1989, Louise Woof launched the groundbreaking "Woof Boot", which was the very first ironing gaiters made from neoprene - until then, leather gaiters had been used. This was a huge step forward as it meant that horses could now wear leg protection in a lightweight material rather than the heavier leather gaiters. For more than 40 years now, Woof Wear has been at the forefront of equestrian equipment for horse and rider, and its products are appreciated around the stables by professionals, hobby riders and the British police.
